Stay focused on your conversation partner

Our mind tends to look for distractions when we’re feeling uncomfortable or awkward in social situations, but nothing will sabotage your conversational efforts more quickly than using your mobile phone. Using your phone, looking around the room or down and away from your conversation partner will a send a message that you’re not interested.

Focus on your partner
Focus on the person you are talking with instead of looking at your phone or the greater environment. Notice the way they are dressed and if there are any special features in the clothes they wear.

Observe the facial expressions being displayed as your partner(s) talk. Observe the tone of voice they use when they talk about their subjects. The information you see and hear will help you to identify passion points and guide the conversation.
